Strengthening unions in Latin America - fighting inequality

duration: 3 years (From 1 January 2021 to 31 December 2023)
budget: not communicated

The project consists of five sub-projects that seek, on the one hand, to strengthen trade union organizations and their ability to influence the structuring of labor relations. On the other hand, they intend to support the democratization of union structures from the base to the managerial level and the adaptation to the requirements of differentiated societies. To develop this effect, three subprojects rely on the intensive support and participation of young people and, in one subproject, other underrepresented groups. In Colombia, the subproject focuses on allowing unions to establish spaces for social dialogue with employers and government agencies. The fifth subproject uses communication as a means of mobilization against extremely precarious working conditions and lack of information in rural areas of Brazil.

Objectives
The objective of the project is to contribute to the achievement of greater social justice, fair working conditions and a better standard of living for workers in the Latin American region. Given that the social achievements of the last 20 years are being deconstructed in many Latin American countries, the project also aims to maintain the standards that have been achieved and, as a limit, meet at least ILO standards. The focus is on the positive effects of union activity in advancing democratization processes and in the fight against inequality
