Trade union participation in social dialogue in guatemalan departments

duration: 2 years 5 months 30 days (From 1 January 2011 to 30 June 2013)
budget: 490,427 EUR

Immediate objective:
The trade unions in the departments Escuintla, Suchitepéquez and Quetzaltenango have with support from FMLL, increased their advocacy at departmental level and proposes thematic suggestions, which promotes Decent Work and poverty reduction.

Development objective:
Trade unions contribute to improving the living conditions in the departments Escuintla, Suchitepéquez and Quetzaltenango, through advocacy in differents forums of social dialogue, such as in the Development Councils and in bi- and tripartite mechanisms in the labour market.

Working method:
1. Development of training programme and training materials
2. Establishing a network of shop stewards in the three departments through training activities. Training of shop stewards (promotores labors & defensoras laborales).
3. Establishing Forums of Common Trade, with local trade union leaders and other trade union representatives.
4. Information and visibility, though production of radiospots, calenders, folders, articles etc.
