Strengthening the trade unions in the building sector in Cambodia

Description
The development goal is to strive in establishing a democratic, gender-fair and representative federation that stands for trade union and human rights as well as for stable employment and decent working conditions for all building, wood and forestry workers in Cambodia. This shall be achieved by strengthening the internal organizational capacity of the BWTUC in order to organize and increase union density in the building and construction sector and improve the terms of employment of workers. It aims to expand the organzing work from the traditional organizing in project construction sites to other subsectors like the workers in companies producing construction materials like cement as well as among artisans in the wood and stone carving industry. It is also involved in organizing workers in the restoration of ancient shrines and temples like those in the Angkor Wat Complex. It also puts special attention to recognizing the contribution of women workers in the construction industry not only in terms of representation but also in terms of equality in wages and improvements in more sensitive working conditions.

Objectives
1. provide assistance to unions to evolve organising approaches and modalities;
2. develop appropriate and relevant services to the members
3. provide training local leaders as front liners in providing these services;
4. provide technical support and link to BWI for the organising campaigns and policy reform agenda.
5. ultimately, empowering the union to become stronger and more representative, and capable of engaging in constructive dialogue with employers as well as brings changes not only at the workplaces but in the society in general.

1. Organizing local union and recruitment of new affiliates and members
2. Training and Education on: Unionism, organizing skills, collective bargaining, OSH, leadership, gender awareness, methods of research
3. CBA Negotiation and campaigning for Most Representative Status
4. Research, survey and mapping of the working conditions in the building and construction industry
