Strengthening the Trade Union Movement in Malawi

duration: 4 years (From 1 January 2015 to 31 December 2018)
budget: not communicated

Description
In performing its activities, the workers’ organizations face challenges in different areas such as; social dialogue; organizing; getting recognition from some employers; and in engaging them in collective bargaining. Education on workers’ rights is inadequate, mainly due to financial, human resource and logistical constraints. The project therefore seeks to strengthen MCTU’s capacities of organizing, keeping an updated membership register as well as training its members and particularly negotiators to reach CBAs and ways of prevention and mitigation of HIV/AIDS at the workplace.

Objectives
The trade union confederation in Malawi is stronger and more representative, and capable of engaging in constructive dialogue with employers and government in its fight for workers’ rights.

Type of activities
Training and education, Recruitment and organising, Merger workshops, Awareness building
