Promouvoir le Travail décent pour un développement durable, équitable, solidaire et inclusif: COSATU

duration: 5 years (From 1 January 2017 to 31 December 2021)
budget: not communicated

Description The programme of the CGSLB and its SSO, the Movement for International Solidarity (MIS), aims to strengthen its trade union partners in South Africa (COSATU and one of COSATU’s affiliates, SACCAWU, which organises workers in the retail & hospitality sectors) to be able to sustainably represent vulnerable workers by promoting and improving social dialogue as a means to obtaining decent working conditions. SACCAWU will emphasise achieving decent work for all by working towards transforming the informal (non-standardised) to the formal, by lobbying, through social dialogue, the South African government to implement the ILO’s recommendation 204, giving special attention to acquiring (through negotiating) a national minimum wage through legislation for all workers, including the vulnerable. Focus within the vulnerable worker groups will be on women and youth. To reach this objective, SACCAWU will focus on a multi-actor approach with special attention for inter-union consultation and networking. SACCAWU will bring a sector-based approach, by focusing on the vulnerable workers from the hospitality sector, since this sector represents 70% of the non-standardised employees in South-Africa.

Objective Strengthened trade union partners in South Africa, are able to improve social dialogue, contributing to more favourable working conditions for vulnerable workers in the informal and formal economy with focus on women & youth
