OBJECTIVES

The project has the following objectives:

- Support the organization and union representation of workers in the informal economy to counter their exclusion, promote their recognition by the government and their participation in social dialogue.
- Strengthening the capacity of participating trade unions to intervene in a targeted manner in the informal economy, to recruit members and to strengthen the capacity of union leaders from the informal sector to represent their constituents.

The project is structured around three complementary activities led by the ITUC and national organizations. CFDT and CSN will provide support in terms of expertise and methodology.

  • Membership campaign (targeted sectors in each country)
Campaigns will allow to meet people working in the informal economy, to inform them about the benefits of being unionized, make them join and recruit for the training.
  • Basic training in terms of representation and trade union action
These courses are targeting new members in targeted sectors (which were not unionized before the project)
  • Micro-enterprise management training
Training in the principles of management and good governance affecting businesses in the targeted sectors of the informal economy.
