The MUFEDE is a cooperative savings and credit founded in 1996 thanks to the determination of a group of 20 women. Driven by the awareness of their responsibility vis-à-vis their less fortunate sisters, these urban women wanted to do what was in their power to support, initially, the activities of village women, for gradually open to a larger customer base to reach men but also legal persons (mainly associations). The number of members of the MUFEDE increased from 9594 in 1996 to 19,987 in 2009.
