Labor Migration Policy from a Worker Rights Perspective and Supporting Migrant Workers against Wage Theft
The purpose of this grant is to :
– Support the Solidarity Center’s engagement and advocacy efforts in advancing migrant worker rights at the global and regional policy-level ;
– Support the organization-wide transnational campaign on “We Are All Workers” tied to the Open Society Foundation’s Vital Workers Campaign in various regions through a targeted communications strategy in collaboration with other global social justice partners ;
– Enhance the protection of fundamental freedoms and rights for migrant workers during and after the COVID-19 pandemic in Kuwait and Jordan by working with unions, migrants rights NGOs and local legal aid organizations/practitioners in tracking and addressing worker rights abuses, particularly wage theft among vulnerable migrant workers ;
– Support dialogue and research on laws and policies that protect migrant workers from wage theft and provide them with easier access to justice remedies for such abuses resulting in an issue brief to be used for advocacy on the transitional justice campaign, and
– Enhance the Solidarity Center’s Just Transition and Climate Change efforts at the local grassroots capacity-building and organizing level and support Solidarity Center’s engagement and transnational advocacy efforts in advancing the voices of workers from the Global South in the climate change discourse at the regional and global policy level.
