Global: Building Rule of Law for Workers by Conducting Legal Research, Promoting Labor Law Reform and Utilizing Domestic and In+A40ternational Legal Mechanisms

Description of the project
To improve the capacity of lawyers, workers, unions, and human rights organizations to effectively use domestic, regional and international laws and institutions, the Solidarity Center will support activities in countries where human and worker rights are under particular risk and/or where the country is in transition. This includes training and assistance in legal advocacy. The Center will continue to bridge the barriers between human rights and labor rights.

Objective 1: To promote legal reforms to improve the legal environment for workers and unions and promote reforms to better hold firms accountable for labor violations

Objective 2:To provide a forum for legal labor advocates to exchange information and strategize to assist workers and unions

Objective 3: To promote legal research which can serve as the basis for advocacy at the national, regional and international levels

Objective 4: To strengthen the capacity of trade unions, lawyers, legal practitioners, scholars and activists to utilize litigation in domestic and human rights courts and other complaint mechanisms

Objective 5: To support the development of global strategies to strengthen worker rights in the garment sector based on comprehensive research

Objective 6: To support research to establish a living wage for targeted countries in order to inform workers and unions, employers and governments of the appropriate minimum wage rate(s)
