Central Asia Regional: Raising Awareness of and Respect for Worker Rights Phase II (Kyrgyzstan)
Project description
To build the capacity of labor unions in Kyrgyzstan to advocate more effectively on behalf of workers and leverage Kyrgyzstan’s strategic position in the Central Asian region to promote respect for worker rights, the Center proposes to work with union and civil society allies to help migrant workers secure their rights abroad and advocate for safe immigration policies with the government of Kyrgyzstan; support worker organizing, particularly among the growing number of young workers; and strengthen advocacy for improvements to labor rights protection mechanisms in the region based on empirical research.
Objective 1: To improve migrant workers’ access to legal resources that will help them protect their rights when working abroad and improve migration policies in Kyrgyzstan
Objective 2:To increase union partners’ capacity to organize new members, particularly among young workers, and to advocate effectively for improved inspection of working conditions
Objective 3: To leverage information gathering about international labor rights standards violations in Central Asia for policy improvements to benefit workers
