Advancing Labor Rights Kenya (Reducing Workplace Exploitation for Informal Workers)

The overall goal of the program is: improve enforcement of existing protections for informal economy workers and promote adoption of greater social protections.
The specific program objectives are:
i) Increased awareness of informal economy workers’ rights among unions, youth-led organizations, informal economy workers, local administration officials, communities and employers in Nairobi and Mombasa;
ii) Strengthen the ability of unions and youth-led organizations to advocate effectively for informal economy workers’ rights;
iii) Improved coordination and relationships between unions, youth-led organizations, and local administration to enforce informal economy workers’ rights.

The Solidarity Center program is designed to reduce workplace exploitation for informal economy workers in Nairobi and Mombasa, Kenya. This will be achieved through training informal economy workers, unions, youth-led organizations, local chiefs, communities, and employers about the rights and existing legal protections for informal economy workers and building the capacity of unions and youth-led organizations to effectively represent informal economy workers.
