GDWP: Towards Decent Work and more secure jobs

duration: 4 years (From 1 January 2013 to 31 December 2016)
budget: 1,586,470 EUR

Description:
Promote unity between street vendors and informal market vendors (including cross border traders); raise the profile of cross border traders; improve democracy in the street vendor movement (direct representation). During the next four years, StreetNet hopes to strengthen its networks, especially those working with cross border traders, which is a very vulnerable group. StreetNet’s top priority is to raise the profile of this group. Another of its objectives is to strengthen its affiliates, promote democracy within affiliates and encourage informal workers to seek direct representation at national and regional negotiating forums. It also wants unions to use the ILO resolution approved in 2002 to promote more inclusive local, national and regional policies. Laws and regulations should be adapted, implemented and enforced. It will also be necessary to defend street vendors in the courts.
